![]() Boston Roadster
The Boston Roadster is my best equipped, all around bicycle. This bike fills a void in the bike industry with its usefulness and style. This is a complete production bike [that is still made one at a time by me] that comes in 23 sizes from 46cm to 68cm in 1 cm increments [specs and full parts list below], and has proportionate stem and crank lengths. The frame is built out of True Temper butted steel tubing [all frames have proportionate tube diameters for the size of frame] and equipped with a Tange uni-crown fork [threadless 1 1/8"]. The bike is fully equipped with everything you need to get around town safely. It has Salsa rims laced with Shimano hub dynamo lighting with Halogen lights, a Shimano Nexus premium 8 speed hub, black plastic fenders, a Bell, Panaracer 70 x 32mm tires, kickstand, chain guard, rear rack and a Brooks saddle to complete the package and all this for only $1,995.00 Everything that you need to know about this bike and fitting yourself up is listed here on this page. This bike is my best deal and is a great value. I have a list of Q & A’s at the bottom. To fit yourself for a Boston Roadster you will need to measure your pubic bone height. You will need to do this with loose shorts, a metric tape measure, two paint sticks and a friend to help you. Take your shoes off and stand straight with your feet apart about 250mm. Sandwich tape between paint sticks, hold at either end and pull up tight into your crotch while your friend pulls tape to the ground and measures. Take this number and multiply by 66% and this will give a seat tube measurement. Take this same measurement, but with your shoes on to get a frame stand-over height. Go to the frame chart [specs and stand-over are listed] to determine which bike size will suit you best [it will be one of two sizes]. Bigger frames get the bars higher, smaller frames might be better for stand-over clearance. I have proportionate stems assigned to each size. If you feel that you have a longer or shorter torso then request a stem that is longer or shorter than the one listed for the frame size you have chosen. Q & A: Q. How is this different from the other bikes you build…like the Light Roadster? A. The BR is a stock bike built around 700c wheel and with few options. All of my other bikes are custom with a wide range of options for fit, style and components. The BR has a longer wheel base and built without toe overlap with the front fender. The BR is built around a V-Brake rather than the long reach sidepull brake on the LR. This allows the BR to fit a bigger tire than the LR. Q. How can you sell the BR at such a reduced rate compared to the other bikes? A. The BR has less time into the whole package, from sale to building process. I have done all of the work of fitting and have made the frame programs already. I use a pre-made fork, stay brace plates and do not do any finish work to the dropouts. This cuts a lot of labor out. Still just as good in weld, tube and alignment quality of anything I make. Q. How can I be sure that this bike will fit me? A. Once you have decided to actually buy a BR, I will look over your sizing info and your choice of bike size and help you to make sure it will fit. These bikes come in 23 sizes in one centimeter increments and have stem size options that will insure a good fit. [Salsa 50mm, 80mm, 90mm, 105mm, 120mm, 135mm in 90o, 115o and 130o angles] Q. How will the bike be shipped to me? A. The bike will be completely assembled, test ridden and disassembled to fit into a bike box, then shipped UPS. The bike will need to be re-assembled, which most anyone with a little bike knowledge can do. If you feel that you will need help, then we can arrange to have it assembled at your favorite local bicycle shop. A retail shop might charge about $100? to assemble. Q. Why should I buy this bike instead of one of your custom bikes? A. That is a good question, but if you have to ask it then the BR is probably the best bike for you. Most people that want a custom bike want to have more choices like wheel size and more expensive American made components. The BR comes in 23 sizes which can fit a whole lot of people! Q. Currently it takes up to 10 months to get a bike from ANT, custom or a stock BR, why? And why would I buy a stock bike that takes that long? A. Even though this bike is a stock bike it is very limited and it is hand made in America. There are a lot of nice useful bikes made in Asia that cost half as much, but my bikes are much more unique and have a better style and you will also be supporting a cottage industry that is dying in the US. You will actually have a connection with your bike builder, rather than some corporate, marketing image. I would also mention that the BR has quality components through out where as a competitor's bike will use a cheaper headset, pedals or saddle etc…in fact the BR is better in every aspect!
